Rowan, Scion of War (Rakdos Turbo) cEDH MTG Proxy Commander Deck

ROWAN, SCION OF WAR - RAKDOS LIFE-AS-MANA TURBO

This deck pays for its spells with its own life total.

This is a Rakdos cEDH turbo deck built around a commander who turns pain
into mana. Rowan, Scion of War taps to make black and red spells cost X less
this turn, where X is the life you lost this turn. So the deck loses life on
purpose. Ancient Tomb, City of Brass, Mana Confluence, Tarnished Citadel,
Sulfurous Springs, Barbarian Ring, Cabal Pit, Peat Bog and Sandstone Needle
all hurt. K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth pays life instead of black mana. Street
Wraith cycles for two. Thoughtseize, Snuff Out, Dismember, Vendetta and Grim
Servant all cost life. By turn two or three you have lost six or more, and
an eight-mana sorcery costs one.

The spell that matters is Peer into the Abyss. Cast at an opponent with
Sheoldred, the Apocalypse on the table, they draw half their library and
lose two life per card, which from 40 is lethal. Cast at yourself, it draws
half the deck and halves your life, which is a giant Rowan discount, and
Vilis, Broker of Blood draws a card for every point on top. Either way the
game usually ends that turn.

From there it is a storm turn. Dark Ritual, Rite of Flame and Burnt Offering
chain, Yawgmoth's Will or Past in Flames replays everything from the
graveyard, and Reiterate with buyback on a ritual while Storm-Kiln Artist
and Birgi, God of Storytelling refund the mana is infinite red mana into
Lightning Bolt and Searing Touch copies at every face.

Hoarding Broodlord is the tutor that Rowan makes nearly free, and Saw in
Half turns one Broodlord into two more tutors. Behind it are Demonic Tutor,
Vampiric Tutor, Beseech the Queen, Demonic Collusion, Increasing Ambition,
Dark Petition, Coveted Prize, Final Parting and Imperial Recruiter, so the
deck always finds Sheoldred and Peer.

Rakdos cannot counter, so it clears the way instead. Grief and Unmask are
free discard on turn one, Thoughtseize is turn one too, and Chalice of the
Void on one shuts off opposing cantrips and cheap interaction. Pyroblast,
Red Elemental Blast and Deflecting Swat cover the rest. Fast mana is Mana
Vault, Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond, Mox Amber, Lotus Petal, Jeska's Will, Simian
Spirit Guide and Treasonous Ogre, which also pays life for mana.
